Have you ever felt uninspired and stuck?
A main symptom is lack of motivation.
Lately I’ve felt that way. Tired, not motivated to do much or go forward on writing projects. Perhaps it’s a letdown from the week after Easter for a pastor’s family.
The uninspired and unmotivated life is not productive.
As a writer, I look for ways to spark inspiration, but last week any motivation and ideas lay dormant. Technology frustrations slowed me down. Other life stressors wore me down. Sometimes I didn’t feel well. I learned about the uninspired life without motivation.
Looking at my previous blog posts, I discovered this could be the intersection of “Destination Unknown” and “Dealing with Stress.”
God has shown me crossroads wisdom from Jeremiah 6:16 (NIV).
In this verse are 4 keys to power through when uninspired.
- Survey the situation, looking where you’ve been and where you hope to go forward. As I reflected, I realized I had made progress and don’t need to self criticize.
- Ask the Lord for guidance. Throughout the Bible we are encouraged to seek the Lord. This reminder again helped me understand the importance of spending time in God’s presence in prayer. I’m rereading Fervent, a good resource for growing in prayer.
- Wait. Why is waiting so hard? I get impatient when technology doesn’t work or am continually busy. It’s okay to slow down and wait on the Lord. Isaiah 40:31 in the Bible explains the importance of waiting.
but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.
- Rest. Jesus spoke the same words of rest in Matthew 11:29.
Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
When I gave myself permission to rest,I felt refreshed.
Simple words, but challenging to incorporate into our crazy full lives.
The four keys have improved my perspective and brought the return motivation and inspiration.
The technology remains frustrating.
God is faithful to restore and renew us.
I can breathe deeply of his grace, knowing his faithfulness in the crossroads wisdom.
I hope you can, too.
