Although we are God’s unique workmanship we are still in need of redemption.
We set out and sail our own way.
God went to great lengths to bring us back. Not only did he form us in his image, but he redeemed us from the power of sin and death.
The word redeemed means to claim, to buy back.
Twice mine: a story of redemption:
A young boy worked hard creating a little sailboat. When the boat was painted and the sail were finished, he proudly carried his new boat to the edge of the river for its first launch. He carefully placed it in the water and slowly let out the string. How smoothly the boat sailed!
He sat in the warm sunshine, admiring the little boat that he had built. Suddenly a strong current caught the boat. When he tried to pull it back to shore, the string broke. The wind and current pushed the little boat downstream.
The young boy ran along the shore as fast as he could. But his little boat soon slipped out of sight. All afternoon he searched for the boat. Finally, when it was too dark to look any longer, he sadly went home.
A few days later, on the way home from school, he spotted a boat just like his in a store window. When he got closer, he could see — sure enough — it was his!
He hurried into the store and spoke to the store manager: “Sir, that’s my boat in your window!”
“I made it!”
“Sorry, son, but someone else brought it in this morning. If you want it, you’ll have to buy it.”
He ran home and counted all his money. He had exactly enough, and rushed back to the store to buy his handmade toy.
As he left the store, the boy hugged his hand made boat and said, “Little boat, now you’re twice mine. First, I made you and now I bought you.”
Do you consider yourself God’s workmanship?
There is no one else with your fingerprints, with your unique personality, so valuable that God went to great lengths to redeem you. You were brought back to God because He bought you through Jesus Christ.
You are twice His.
First because God made you and twice because He bought you.
Redemption of His workmanship.
“I have swept away your offenses like a cloud, your sins like the morning mist. Return to me, for I have redeemed you.” Isaiah 44:22
“For it was not with perishable things that you were redeemed…but with the precious blood of Christ…” 1 Peter 1:18-19
We no longer have to sail our own way.
What a blessed gift we have through redemption in Jesus Christ!
