Each season brings the anticipation of change–the new buds of spring bear hope, full summer shade brings relaxation, autumn’s painted trees announce exhilaration, and snowy fields of winter herald peace to dormant creation. The unique beauty of each season reflects the majesty and creativity of God.
Having lived where the four seasons are evident, I enjoy seeing the cycles of nature. Summer has now faded into autumn. The crisp air, golden sun of shorter days, and the blanket on the bed remind me of the change. It’s sweater season with hot chocolate or coffee on the porch. Inhale and breathe the scents of apple crisp, cider, and cinnamon!
The seasons of life change, but one thing remains constant.
The Lord God does not change; His mercies are new every morning.This truth is expressed in Lamentations 3:22-24:
Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. I say to myself, “The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for him.”
This verse provides an anchor that keeps me tethered to hope when I feel overwhelmed by change. Reread those words and let them sink into your heart. God’s compassions never fail. They are new every morning. If you’re in a personal season of change, look to the unfailing love of God for stability. If you are in a time of waiting, abide in the Lord as your portion. If your life is calm, enjoy the beauty of the seasonal change from day to day.
The colors of the leaves will change, but the faithfulness of the Lord remains the same.
The love of God goes on and on through every season.
