Moms, have you ever judged yourself as not good enough? Always coming up short of what is expected or needed?
As I’ve observed moms of all ages throughout the decades of my life, I’ve seen a common battle that many—including myself—have experienced. We often think we aren’t good enough for the tasks in our lives and begin to believe that lie from the enemy.
When I fall into the pit of lies, I have to remember the truth of God’s Word. The battle is real.
The issue of inadequacy, of not being “enough” for their loved ones, haunts our minds. The thoughts that attack a mom’s mind sound like this:
The result of these damaging thoughts is a niggling feeling of inadequacy that won’t go away. The lies are rehearsed over and over, especially when you are exhausted from life.
Any thoughts of inadequacy can snowball into giant lies of self-condemnation.
Moms, fight this inner battle with the Word of God.
You are enough in Christ!
Here are 5 verses to remember when you feel inadequate:
My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Psalm 73:26 NIV
When you are tired beyond exhaustion from work and little people who are up in the night, turn to the Lord. He is the ultimate source of strength.
For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. Ephesians 2:10 NIV
When you are not satisfied when you look in the mirror at the same hairstyle, the extra pounds, and the dark circles under your eyes, remember you are fearfully and wonderfully made to fulfill the role of mom. You are God’s masterpiece.
Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. Romans 8:1 NIV
When the kids don’t listen and you begin to believe the lies of inadequacy, look to the Lord and find acceptance.
The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves.
He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you,
but will rejoice over you with singing. Zephaniah 3:17 NIV
When you are overwhelmed with life, pause and savor the words of affirmation from God.
I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness. Jeremiah 31:3 NIV
Remember your worth in Christ.
When any damaging thoughts pop into your mind, retrain your thinking to remember your worth in Christ. You are accepted and loved for the beautiful person God created you to be.
Let the truth of God’s Word penetrate your mind and spirit to win the battle.
When you feel like no one else feels this way (although most moms do) remember God’s promise of everlasting love for YOU.
Open your heart to receive a hug from God.
YOU are enough in Christ.
