Have you ever stumbled over a child’s toy in a dark room? Even a small nightlight could avert the pain of stepping on Lego blocks or toy cars.
Light helps us see all that is around us. It also brings warmth. Without the light of the sun, nothing would grow. It is necessary for life. Light guides ships and airplanes to safe landing. Light brings hope to the darkness.
Many Bible verses use light to describe God.
God’s first creation was light and stated that it was good.
And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. Gen. 1:3
The word light was directly synonymous with God Himself; He has no darkness.
God led the Israelites in the desert with light (pillar of cloud by day, pillar of fire by night). They were taught to sing, “The LORD is my light and my salvation — whom shall I fear?” (Ps. 27:1).
God’s word is described as a light source for our lives. Many times I have turned to the Bible for understanding to give wisdom to a confusing situation.
Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path. Psalm 119:105
The prophet Isaiah wrote a prophecy of the birth of Jesus in Isaiah 9,
The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned…For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
The child born in the manger became the light of life to redeem all of us from sin in this fallen world. The light of God pierced the darkness of the world, bringing hope.
With our eyes fixed on Jesus—living in His power and growing in His grace—we are less likely to stumble in the darkness. Often we want to see the entire pathway from beginning to end, but God gives us enough light for the step we’re on.
Jesus said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” John 8:12
As we proceed into the New Year, look to the Lord and reflect the Light of the World.
The moon is visible at night because it reflects the light of the sun. God makes His light shine in our hearts and we are to reflect His light to those around us.
Jesus said in Matthew 5:13-16,
You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.
Praise God for the Light of the world, Jesus Christ.

So much light! So encouraging to read your post. When you mentioned how the moon reflects the sun and how we are to reflect the light of Christ it reminded me of a short poem I wrote a couple of years ago:
The sky was dark save for the moon,
the solitary sphere in its fullness.
The cycle has completed and
will begin again continuing
on night after night
reflecting light from the sun.
I am sometimes like that moon
solitary in my way,
day after day in my routine.
But I want more.
I want my life to be
a reflection of the Son.
Nice to “meet” you. I’m your neighbor at Word of God Speak!
