For many of us, school days are long past. No more tests or grades.
Yet, a question comes to mind.
Are you still learning from God in the midst of your daily life?
This verse caught my attention during the first week of school.
Learning God’s ways take a lifetime of exploring the scriptures. It’s more than reading and memorizing, but also includes applying its principles to situations. Learning through life experience is an opportunity to grow in greater faith in Christ to become more like Him.
Here are some habits of the lifelong learner:
- Cultivate a positive attitude in whatever you do. Is your heart open what He can teach you in the current season of your life? Will you be better or bitter when faced with a crisis?
…I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. Philippians 4:11 NIV
- Take your questions to the Lord in prayer. Ask God for His perspective on your situation. He sees the whole picture, not just the current challenge. The Lord welcomes our questions and burdens.
Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. ~ Jesus, in Matthew 11:29 NIV
- Seek God in His Word, not just for head knowledge but also for heart knowledge. Looking to the Master Teacher and applying God’s Word brings about transformation in our hearts. When He opens the eyes of the heart, we see more of God.
Your hands made me and formed me; give me understanding to learn your commands. Psalm 119:73
- Keep yourself in contact with other believers who can support and encourage you. Now is when many churches begin their small group ministries. I encourage you to join one to put yourself in a position for growth from others.
They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Acts 2:42 NIV
Find joy in becoming a lifelong learner!
There are more elements of Christian growth than I have listed here, but these can get you started. It is my prayer that you will learn life lessons from the best Teacher ever—the Master Teacher Jesus Christ.

I so agree with you! I’ve been a life long learner of God’s Word and it has truly made all of the difference in developing an intimate relationship with Him and walking in victory.
