Faithfulness is a comforting characteristic in those around us. We know we can trust them to be there for us, even in the tough times. Unfortunately, we are often confronted with someone who is unfaithful, not following through on what was promised. We are left feeling betrayed or hurt because of the changeability of human nature.
Several years ago, my husband Rick and I sensed God’s call to move to a church where he would be a youth pastor. This church offered great promises to us, stating that Rick would be the successor to the senior pastor when he would retire in a few years.
We moved there believing the best.
Within a few months things changed. Instead of looking to future with hope, we were devastated when the main leadership chose to release Rick. The people we trusted had broken their word.
I felt betrayed, confused and hurt. With two young children and soon no income, I prayed desperately for God’s provision to lead us to another ministry. If Rick hadn’t been hired by a church within a few months, we made the decision that he would find a different career than pastoring.
God showed His faithfulness to me.
I searched the Bible for hope and discovered God’s unchangeable faithfulness in the midst of our uncertainties. The verses gave me renewed hope. In His time, God opened the door for us to move to another ministry, which became a place of healing and restoration for us.
God’s faithfulness is secure and can be trusted when we don’t understand what is going on around us. He gave us the promise that He does not change when everything else is in flux.
If you are in a season of uncertainty, look to the Lord. He is steadfast and will not change.
