Do embers of thanksgiving linger in your heart as the Christmas season quickly approaches?
Psalm 107 reveals 5 ways to continue to pray with thanksgiving each day.
1. “Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, his love endures forever.” (v.1)
What does this simple verse say about God? He is good. He is love. He is eternal. Even when tough times come, He is good. Even in the midst of loneliness, His love is there. Thank God for these enduring qualities.
2.“Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for men, for he satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things.” (v. 8-9) God’s love is active. When we have a longing in our souls, He is the one who can fill it. Thank Him for satisfying those longings through seeking Him.
3. “Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for men, for He breaks down gates of bronze and cuts through bars of iron.” (v.15-16) His love is a powerful force, capable of cutting through iron bars of addiction or depression. He is the gate to new life. Who do you know that you can pray for release from an inner prison of despair?
4. “They cried to the Lord in their trouble, and he saved them from their distress. He sent forth his word and healed them; He rescued them from the grave. Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for men.” (v. 15-16) God is in the business of rescuing the lost and healing the brokenhearted. This is another reason to give thanks. Pray for His word to go out into the dark places in this world to rescue others.
5. “Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for men. Let them exalt him.” Remember His qualities, reflect on His actions, rejoice in His rescuing.
