Psalm 8: Enjoy Creation!
Last month we enjoyed some family time in the beauty of the mountains. One morning we set out on a rocky trail to find a hidden lake. We zigzagged up the side of the mountain, pausing often to rest, drink water, and catch our breath. The trail wound through a forest and across rock ledges, although it seemed to go straight up. All the while we wondered how much further it was to the lake.
Hikers returning from the lake encouraged us, saying it was just 10 minutes away. Their words inspired us to press on.
Around a few more curves we finally we made it! Whew! Out of breath from the thin air, but also breathless at the sight, we paused to savor the view: a clear lake surrounded by snow capped peaks and a deep azure sky. A stream tumbled over the edge of the mountain, becoming the roaring waterfall that wound through the forest. Below us, off in the distance, was a larger lake, from where we began our hike.
A young family sat on granite boulders enjoying a snack. Children squealed as they tentatively stepped into the cold water. We dangled our feet in the lake until our toes turned blue. Then we let sun warm them again. Here was creation enjoying creation!
No matter where you are, take a moment to praise the Creator God. Whether you see a fluffy cloud in the hot sky or a lightning bug at dusk, smile and praise God. Creation points us to praise the Creator!
“O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens. From the lips of children and infants you have ordained praise… When I consider your heavens and the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him?
O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!” (from Psalm 8 )
