Seeing Grace Everyday

Pure Christmas Love

Who doesn’t love to get gifts at Christmas? They are a big part of the holiday. But what is motive for giving the gifts?

Sometimes we give gifts because we think we have to give. We give to make an impression of being thoughtful or generous.

Gifts given from the heart are the best gifts of all. We choose gifts for those we love. We also show love by helping those less fortunate through giving through organizations like Operation Christmas Child or the Salvation Army.

What makes a gift from the heart?

Pinterest has a board called Gifts from the Heart. It features handmade and homemade ideas for gifts. I stopped my writing to look through it and gain ideas that I probably won’t use. But it’s interesting.

The gift from the heart is something thought out by the giver that would be appropriate for the receiver. It is given with a special touch of affection, often handmade.

God gave the gift of pure love at Christmas, straight from His heart.

He gave us Jesus, who became like us, born in a manger. God gave us this gift because we are less fortunate and need a Savior. We need someone to reunite us with Him. He sent Jesus from His heart, created as one of us, to redeem our heart from the darkness of sin. All because of unconditional grace.

God’s motivation was pure love, not obligation. It was totally selfless, given for our benefit.

“This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him.” 1John 4:9 NIV

We cannot earn it. We don’t deserve it. But He loves us anyway.

“This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.” 1John 4:10 NIV

The world was changed when love was born. Have you received it?
