Worship is an uplifting way to draw near to God. A few moments of praise helps me gain a better perspective. My focus shifts from my situation to the Lord and I remember that God is sovereign.
Worship can happen anywhere.
As I prepared to write this, I took time to play praise music on the piano. The moments at the keys refreshed my spirit. Later I walked outside in the sunshine; my heart lifted in praise.
No matter where we are, we can express our love and appreciation to the Lord We are created for worship.
Worshiping connects us to the heart of God. It is our response to the Lord.
Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; bring an offering and come before him. Worship the Lord in the splendor of his holiness. 1 Chronicles 16:29 NIV
We realize our position before the Creator.
Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker; for he is our God and we are the people of his pasture, the flock under his care. Psalm 95:6-7 NIV
C.S. Lewis defines the purpose of worship.
The act of worship has five powerful effects on the believer.
- Worship clarifies my vision of who God is. The prophet Isaiah saw the Lord as high, exalted, and holy. Isaiah 6:1-3 We get a glimpse of his holiness and greatness in the Bible.
- It changes my perspective. Isaiah realized and confessed his unclean nature. God then cleansed him and emboldened Isaiah to go speak. He gained a new perspective, going from cautious to courageous. Isaiah 6:4-8.
- It strengthens my heart. Psalm 103:1-5 recounts benefits and blessings from God—forgiveness, healing, redemption, and renewal—which leads to praising God’s holy name.
- It reassures me of God’s presence when I am down. Psalm 73: 23-26
- Adoration produces joy. Psalm 16:11
When you need a pick-me-up in the middle of your day, a few moments of worship can improve your perspective and bring joy.
What effects of praise and adoration have your discovered?

Love this, Nancy. I once heard someone say, “Worship is the fuel and the goal of all missions.” I have been learning that we have ALL been called to be missionaries. We have all been planted in this life just where God wants us, and we need to worship Him in order to fuel ourselves and achieve His purpose for us.

Bless you and thank you!!

Thanks, Kayla! What you said is so true. If people don’t know the Lord, there is no worship. We will all worship around the throne of God one day.
